Studying business abroad is no longer simply about international exposure, it is about developing the ability to interpret business challenges through multiple perspectives and understanding that successful leadership requires technical competence alongside cultural intelligence, environmental awareness, and ethical decision-making. Employers increasingly seek graduates who are capable of working across borders, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and responding to rapidly changing global expectations surrounding sustainability, governance, and responsible business practices. These competencies are difficult to develop solely through classroom instruction. They are strengthened through meaningful international experiences that encourage students to observe, compare, question, and reflect on how different societies approach economic development and organisational management.

Recognising these changes in global business education, the Upskill Study Program, in collaboration with Udayana University, is proud to introduce the Sustainable Business and Global Governance Semester Program, an innovative 30 ECTS postgraduate semester designed specifically for international Master's students in Business, International Business, Management, Economics, and related Social Science disciplines. Scheduled to welcome its inaugural cohort in 2027, the program combines rigorous academic study with field-based learning, enabling students to examine contemporary business issues within the dynamic context of Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Throughout the semester, students will explore topics including Biodiversity and Sustainable Ecotourism Management, Integrated ESG and Business Sustainability Assessment, Green, Blue, and Circular Economy, Free Trade and the Governance of Global Markets, Intercultural Communication and Management, Bahasa Indonesia, and an independent applied research project. Together, these interdisciplinary modules encourage students to understand business not as an isolated discipline, but as a field deeply connected to environmental systems, governance structures, cultural contexts, and sustainable development. 

The semester has been designed around a simple educational philosophy: some of the most important lessons in international business cannot be learned from textbooks alone. They are developed by engaging directly with emerging economies, observing how global frameworks are implemented within local contexts, and critically examining the relationship between business, society, and the environment. Through lectures delivered by Udayana University's postgraduate faculty, field-based observation, industry engagement, and applied research, students will gain both the academic knowledge and practical perspective required to navigate an increasingly interconnected business world. 

As preparations continue for the program's first intake, prospective students are invited to follow its development and register their interest for the 2027 pilot cohort. With limited places available for the inaugural semester, the first intake will provide an opportunity to join an international learning community at the beginning of what aims to become one of Southeast Asia's leading postgraduate study abroad experiences in sustainable business and global governance.
