What Kind of Funding Is Available?

Whether you are joining a summer course in Bali or a full semester abroad, there are several types of financial aid available:

  • University Bursaries: Many institutions offer a Global Experience Bursary to help students join short-term international programs. This often includes support for travel, course fees, and living expenses.

  • Government Grants:

    • UK students can apply through the Turing Scheme, which funds global mobility programs.

    • Australian students may be eligible for the New Colombo Plan, designed to support study, internships, and language programs in the Indo-Pacific.

    • EU students often receive mobility grants or Erasmus+ alternatives that align with credit-bearing courses abroad.

Student Voices: How They Did It

Chris, from the Netherlands, shares how he funded his semester abroad with Upskill:

“I worked a part-time job during my studies and also received a university scholarship. I had to submit a motivation letter and a financial plan showing how I’d use the funds during my time in Bali. To maintain the scholarship, I needed to submit proof of completion and even create reels and photos to promote the program.”

Marijke had a similar experience:

“Applying for a scholarship made a big difference. I had to submit documents like a budget and a motivation letter. I really encourage other students to check their university or even government websites there’s often more support than you think!”
