upskill study’s Successful Debut of Sport and Environment Course

This summer, Upskill Study proudly launches its first-ever independent program: the Sport and Environment short course. This pioneering four-week program, meticulously crafted by the Upskill team in a remarkably short time, offers students an unparalleled experience in sustainable practices and environmental conservation. Designed for a diverse range of academic backgrounds, this program blends theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and cultural experiences against the stunning backdrop of Bali. With detailed scheduling, an impressive array of facilitators, and a thoughtfully curated itinerary, the program has garnered wonderful feedback from participants, showcasing the Upskill team’s dedication and effort to deliver exceptional results.

First Week: Warm Welcome and Thrilling Start

The first week of the Upskill Study Sport and Environment Summer Course starts with a buzz of excitement as students gather for their first breakfast together. Amidst warm introductions, coffee, and eager conversations, they connect with fellow participants, all enthusiastic about the immersive journey ahead. On Monday to Wednesday, the program unfolds with engaging activities, beginning with an orientation and intensive SUP training at Kelan Beach, culminating in a special guest lecture by Piping Irawan, a celebrated Balinese surfer who offers insights into Bali's vibrant surfing culture.

During the weekend, they also delve into coral reef restoration in Pemuteran led by Coral and Dive expert Komang Astika from Yayasan Karang Lestari Bali, participating in snorkeling and a cleansing ceremony at a local temple. The week concludes with a cultural workshop on Sunday, leaving students inspired and excited for the experiences to come.

Second Week: Ecological and Cultural Venture

In the second week of the Upskill Study Program, participants experienced a blend of ecological and cultural activities. On Monday, they engaged in a sea turtle release at TCEC, led by sustainability expert Dr. A.A. Raka Dalem, followed by Bahasa Indonesia lessons from Jembatan Bahasa Language School. Tuesday brought a visit to Samsara Jungutan Village, where participants stopped by a living museum and learned about sustainable practices. Wednesday featured a yoga workshop with certified expert Diah Sawitri and lectures on Tri Hita Karana and healthy living.

Thursday included language practice and a Mangrove Canoe Tour guided by Professor Ida Ayu Astarini. The week concluded on Friday with a beach cleanup at Kuta Halfway and an interactive water safety session at Badan Penyelamat Wisata, followed by a deep reflection session to share experiences.

Third Week: Sustainable Practice and Impact

As the program transitions into the third week, the focus shifts to an exciting journey through Bali's rich culture, sports science, and sustainability efforts. It kicks off with engaging Bahasa Indonesia classes led by Mr. Soma from Jembatan Bahasa Language School, followed by sports massage training with Dasrianto, a spa expert with over 20 years of experience.

Students then explore Bali's eco-tourism through a cycling tour of Jatiluwih's rice terraces and a visit to Lemukih Village, where they experience traditional Balinese life and local ecotourism. The week continues with a practical session at Wefitness on sports injury prevention, and ends with a deep dive into waste management with Buya Azmedia Istiqlal of Urban Biologist Bali, who guides students in building a community composting bin.

The week wraps up with a reflective visit to Uluwatu Temple, featuring a captivating Kecak fire dance. Upskill Study has carefully selected top-notch facilitators to provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, ensuring students gain valuable insights and hands-on knowledge.

Fourth Week: Exploration and Development Goals

Throughout the final week of the Upskill Study Program, students participated in diverse fun activities, from yoga aerials workshops with experienced instructors to learning Bahasa Indonesia with Jembatan Bahasa Language School. They also explored the cultural and ecological aspects of Bali, including a surf session with Indopurejoy, a visit to Bali MMA for martial arts training, followed by a relaxing deep tissue massage at Spring Spa Uluwatu.

The week also featured insightful lectures on nature-based tourism at Ubud’s Monkey Forest, DIY body treatment workshops, and culminated in final presentations and a Stand-Up Paddle Yoga session at Kelan Beach. The program ended with a closing dinner, where students reflected on their enriching experiences. The variety of activities and expert guidance left students thoroughly satisfied and appreciative of the comprehensive learning journey they experienced.

Elite Team of Expert Facilitators

The Upskill's Sport and Environment Study Program is led by a diverse team of 20 distinguished facilitators, including public figures, cultural artisans, and skilled instructors, all experts in their respective fields. Notable among them are Dr. Ir. A.A. Raka Dalem, a sustainability expert from Udayana University; Bernard Simanjuntak, an ASI Certified Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Instructor and founder of SUP Priority Bali; and Bagus Made Irawan, Bali’s surf pioneer, journalist, and activist.

The program also features Ida Bagus Agung Gunarthawa, founder of Samsara Living Museum Bali, and Susan Andrinaju Tedjo, a yoga and wellness expert with extensive certifications. Additionally, the MMA instruction is led by Topnoi & Thut Kiwram, professional fighters ranked among the top flyweights in Southeast Asia.
