"With its central location as a coral triangle, Bali is rich with coral reef, mangrove forest, seagrass bed and seaweed" said Ibu Astarini about the Upskill’s Tropical Tropical Coastal Ecology and Community Based Management program. "This course allows students to explore the ecology of flora and fauna around the coastal area, their current status and how to monitor the area, doing case study and see how the community is involved in the solving of coastal-related problems,". There are four main courses of Upskill's Post Grad Tropical Ecology program; namely Mangrove Ecology Management, Seaweed and Seagrass, Coral Ecology and Management, to Threat on Coastal Regions.

During the semester of studying Tropical Coastal Ecology and Community Based Management, students will do research on the biodiversity of these main coastal ecosystems and visit different community-based conservation projects. They will also gain more knowledge about how the community manages these ecosystems to meet both conservation and tourism needs. "The community-based management study will give the student a handsome experience through discussion with the related NGO. They will know first-hand about what activities had been done in Bali to conserve the coastal area," said Ibu Astarini.

Ibu Astarini also explained why Bali is one of the best destinations to study Tropical Coastal Ecology and Community Based Management post graduate program "Bali is a very small island in which you can go around it in 1 or 2 days. Everywhere you go here, you will find gorgeous beaches. The coastline varies from calm beaches like Sanur to rough water like in Uluwatu, and will be so diverse ecologically,” she said. “Moreover,Bali is a well known tourist destination for its culture and scenery. It has good infrastructure and facilities, so it is very convenient for students to study while enjoying the nature and culture of Bali."

As a Professor with vast knowledge and experience, Ibu Astarini is so excited to welcome postgraduate international students who would learn more about Bali's distinctive coastal plants. "Bali is a small island with a specific type of plants, so (in terms of plants) there is so much to explore in this island," she said. "Teaching international students is very exciting! Because the students came from all over the world, having possibly limited knowledge on tropical countries, so there is so much to tell; not only the knowledge from the lecture that I give, but also the culture and our daily activity that they have not yet know about,"
