Bachelor Students Interview
A Talk with with Moritz: My Semester in upskill Udayana’s Study Tropical Biology and Conservation Program
"Bali's tropical climate, with its lush vegetation and diverse wildlife, presented me with unique challenges and opportunities for learning." Moritz, Innsbruck University.
In his recount of the Tropical Biology and Conservation semester program in Bali with Upskill Study, Moritz, a biology student from Austria, shares an experience that transformed his understanding of the natural world. With vivid descriptions and personal anecdotes, Moritz takes readers on a journey through the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Bali, highlighting the unique opportunities and memorable moments that defined his semester abroad. His story offers a glimpse into the engaging learning experiences and rich biodiversity that make this program a truly special choice for aspiring biologists and conservationists.
Engaging Lectures and Field Trips
The upskill Tropical Biology and Conservation semester program was a blend of traditional lectures and hands-on field trips, spread over 16 weeks. Our lectures at Udayana University were engaging and informative, but what made this program truly special were the field trips. We visited various locations across Bali, exploring the island's ecosystems and getting a firsthand look at its remarkable biodiversity.
One of my favorite field trips was to Samsara Living Museum Karangsem, where we experienced the beauty of Bali's natural landscapes and learned about traditional Balinese culture. We participated in an Arak brewing session, identifying plants and a cooking class, which provided insights into the local customs and traditions. These experiences were not only educational but also a lot of fun.
Studying tropical biology and conservation in Bali offered me insights that I could never have gained in Austria. The tropical climate, with its different vegetation and diverse wildlife, presented me with challenges and opportunities for learning. The program's structure allowed us to explore these environments, from marine ecosystems to dense forests, providing a comprehensive understanding of tropical biology.
Another highlight of the program was the flexibility it offered. Mornings were typically reserved for lectures, while afternoons and weekends were open for exploration. This allowed us to visit beaches, waterfalls, and other iconic Bali locations in our free time, creating a well-rounded experience that balanced academic learning with personal adventure.
My time in Bali with the Udayana’s upskill Study has only reinforced my passion for marine biology and conservation. The knowledge and experiences I gained during the program have given me a clearer understanding of the path I want to take in my future studies and career. If you're interested in exploring tropical biology and conservation in a truly unique setting, I can't recommend this program enough. If you're considering a semester abroad, I encourage you to explore the Tropical Biology and Conservation program in Bali with Udayana’s Upskill Study.
