Seaweed Farming

Seaweed Farming is one of the biggest and most important industries on the island of Nusa Lembongan. This small island is located about an hour and a half boat ride away from the southeast side of Bali. For generations, the locals were earning their livelihood with seaweed farming, but nowadays more and more people give up that tradition in order to work in the tourism industry.

Even though the seaweed farming was experiencing a big decrease in recent years, there are still several local families who continue with the tradition of seaweed farming in Nusa Lembongan.

During the course of your studies you will get the chance to observe the traditional seaweed farming in Nusa Lembongan with your own eyes. During a multi-day trip to Nusa Lembongan island, you will get to know the traditional process of the seaweed farming and learn more about the threads this industry is currently facing due to global warming and an increasing tourism on the island.
