This practical summer course provides 4 weeks of knowledge, successful practices, field trips and case studies.

Activities: Field Trips

Every week, we will go on a variety of field trips across Bali, which will neatly tie into the theoretical lectures of that week.

Language: English

Our well-structured lectures, which are held in English at Udayana University, will help you gain expertise on outdoor sports.

Credit Points: 6 ECTS

Within this summer course you can achieve up to 6 ECTS credit points awarded by Udayana University in Bali.

Bali is one of the best destinations in the world when it comes to outdoor sports. Here, a tropical paradise awaits you with stunning beaches, lush forests, and a mountain landscape that has everything a sports enthusiast could want. The island of gods is famous among surfers for hosting some of the best waves in the world, but also lets you explore some of the prime kite surfing and scuba diving spots. Away from the beaches, Bali's mountains will provide ideal opportunities for hiking, trekking and mountain biking. With a variety of active volcanoes, such as Mount Batur and Mount Agung, to choose from, you will find the perfect challenge. Get ready for a summer program that is the perfect combination of in-depth theoretical lessons, adventures in nature and athletic challenges.

Course Objectives

  • Explore theory and practice of different Water Sports, Outdoor Sports and Trend Sports.

  • Learn about sports tourism in Indonesia.

  • Explore the topic of sport, domestic culture and intercultural interaction in Indonesia.

  • Understand the connection of environmental protection and outdoor sports.

  • Identify the key concepts and issues of sustainability.

  • Evaluate products and best practices in sustainable development especially in sport tourism.

  • Exchanging knowledge with the local and international scientific communities

  • Critically evaluate sustainability in selected sport tourist resorts, hotels and other sport tourist attractions in Bali.

  • Study Balinese Language - Bahasa Indonesia

  1. Theory & Practicals:
    Students will explore the theoretical and practical education of different sports, including; Water Sports (Surfing, Kitesurfing, Diving and Stand Up Paddling), Outdoor Sports (Trekking, Climbing, Mountainbiking and Canoeing) and Trend Sports (Yoga, Pencak Silat, Beach games and Outdoor Fitness).

While visiting a coral reef close to the university, you will learn how to transplant and maintain a healthy coral reef.

During our visit, you will learn how the rice terrace's eco system works, and why UNESCO has made them a World Cultural Heritage.

Bali's culture is probably the island's most unique characteristics. During this workshop you will explore and dive into some of the iconic Balinese traditions.

Kumbasari Market

One of the best ways to experience a new culture is through visiting its traditional market. Thus, we will take you to one of the biggest art markets in Bali.

Cooking Class

Visiting Indonesia is always a culinary journey, as well. To make sure that you can recreate some of your favorite dishes, we will join a Balinese cooking class.

Waterfall Trekking

After spending the night in an ecolodge in a small village in North Bali, we will hike through rice fields to visit several waterfalls and this natural water slide.
